  1. Dr. Smith Perhaps the non-human machines we interact with on a daily basis have given us a sense that we are in-control and can demand immediate responses (of course the response WE want). We have become an instant gratification society, and that automatically transfers to the children. When I interact with elderly people, I am quickly reminded of the gentle comfort of real human frailty. We all have attributes, liabilities, and fascinating personal stories that if given the time and opportunity to share earn respect. Are we going at too fast of a pace to be able to respect each other? I don’t really think so. We just have to prompt ourselves (and our kids) to focus on other humans in our surroundings, and appreciate what they are bringing to the interaction. Ah, but how? That was the question, wasn’t it?
